We use sieves to meet the granulation specifications of our customers. We sieve the sugar as it goes into the silo as fresh production. We sieve the sugar as it comes out of the silos toward classifiers. We sieve the sugar as it leaves the classifiers and is packaged into bags, bulk trucks and bulk rail cars.
Midpoint sieves have a tight enough calibration to meet our needs which are considerably less tolerant than the ASTM E-11 specification. We also use the midpoint sieves to calibrate less expensive sieves which are used in harsh production environments.
I have found that Endecott sieves are less expensive to purchase because even the sieves which are not certified midpoints will almost always pass our criteria where other brands will not. All the Endecotts sieves have a metal ring around the inside of the sieve next to the screen so that there is less solder exposed to the sugar, and where sugar can become trapped in the solder lead that is next to the screen in most sieves as they crack with age, it will not in an Endecott sieve.
