The CSC Economy Moisture Balance

The alternative equipment for loss on drying ranges from oven tests, which require tedious weighing of samples, long drying times, manual calculation and manual transfer of results, to automatic loss on drying equipment , that gets rid of the tedious weighing and calculation tasks.

When a decision has been made to utilize automatic loss on drying equipment, the location of the testing is an important factor is selecting the right equipment.

For example if the need is to monitor a manufacturing process, the ideal location of the test equipment would be at or near the processing equipment. For this type of applications CSC has provided ruggard and simple to use moisture balances in form of the CENCO and the CSC Digital Moisture Balance.

Economy Moisture Balance Where these more stringent operating requirements are not present, we often recommend the CSC Economy Moisture Balance. This instrument measures the weight loss by drying of a sample and automatically calculatting the moisture content. The CSC Economy Moisture Balance providea an alternative means for recording test, either with a printer or via a connection to a computer.

This Moisture Balance will show results in one of the folowing ways:

  • Percent (%) Moisture: (Start Weight-End Weight) / Start Weight
  • Percent (%) Solids: Start Weight / End weight
  • Percent (%)  Dry Weight: (Start Weigh-End Weight) /End Weight.

Test profiles include automatic shut-off as well as timed tests.  The instruments shut of criteria can be changed to optimize the test time vs precision of results.

The test temperature can be controlled from Ambient to 160° Centigrade. (controlled to +/- 1°)  Moisture in samples from 1 gram to 50 grams can be measured.

Disposable pans are used to hold the test samples. These eliminate the need to clean the testing container after every test.

To run a Moisture test the operator does the following steps:

1. Opens the top.
2. Places a disposable pan on the scale.
3. Presses the Tare button.
4. Loads sample to prescribed weight.
5. Closes the top.
6.Presses the Start key.

The moisture analysis is then accomplished automatically. When this loss on drying test is finished a buzzer sounds. If using a computer the moisture results will be continuously sent. If a printer is used to record the test, the operator press the print key or the operator can read the moisture analysis results from the display.
